Son arrested after mother attacked by dog in Hialeah, police say

A woman was flown to the hospital after she was attacked by a dog in Hialeah late Thursday, and her son was arrested on animal cruelty charges, authorities said.

Hialeah police and fire rescue responded to the scene at 1129 West 70th Place.

The victim was found severely injured, having suffered “multiple dog bites to her arms and legs,” authorities said. Hialeah Fire Rescue said she was airlifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center.

“During the investigation, officers identified the dog involved in the attack and observed multiple dogs on the property in poor condition, including signs of malnourishment, lack of clean water, and unsanitary living conditions,” police said.

The owner of the animals and the victim’s son, 22-year-old Jairon Alvarez, was arrested and charged with animal cruelty and resisting arrest without violence.

Police said Miami-Dade Animal Services removed a total of 10 dogs from the property as part of the investigation.

The investigation continues.
