Man arrested after woman slain, house set ablaze in Gloucester Twp., police say
A man has been arrested on Tuesday after, officials said, a woman was stabbed to death and a home was set on fire in Gloucester Township overnight.
The new information on the arrest and slaying at the home came Tuesday morning after NBC10’s cameras captured crews working to move a body bag onto a stretcher. Fire officials had been working overnight after a fire at a home along the 100 block of Freedom Way in Gloucester Township, New Jersey.
In a morning update, officials said, a man — who police have not yet identified — was arrested after a woman in her 50s was stabbed to death at that home.
Officials said the home was likely set on fire in an arson incident at the residence.
NBC10’s crews arrived at the scene at about 3:30 a.m. to find firefighters working at a three-story home.
A neighbor who lives on the block told NBC10 that she had been evacuated from her home at about 2:30 a.m. on Tuesday morning.
The neighbor, who did not want to be identified in this article, told NBC10’s Lili Zheng that she never saw flames but noticed smoke pouring from a home on that block as she was evacuated.
The body bag was seen being removed from the property just after 5:30 a.m. on Tuesday.
In an update, officials said the man is being held as charges are pending and further information on this incident would be provided later on Tuesday.
