Teen arrested in assault of woman in Weston that was caught on camera, BSO says

A teen has been arrested after he was caught on camera assaulting a woman and exposing himself in Weston last week, authorities said.

The 17-year-old suspect was taken into custody on Friday on a count of attempted sexual battery, Broward Sheriff’s Office officials said.

The incident happened around 4:30 p.m. on April 8 near the 16500 block of Golf Club Road, officials said.

Surveillance video released by BSO showed the suspect exposing and pleasuring himself in an adjacent parking lot before he slowly approached the victim, removed his shoes and grabbed her from behind.

A struggle ensued before he eventually got up, put on his shoes and ran to a nearby scooter and fled the scene.

“I usually walk here inside the condo…I was sitting on the hill, like to rest and watch them play golf and suddenly someone jumped me from behind,” the woman said through a Spanish interpreter in a 911 call from the incident. “I turned over immediately and I defend myself.”

The teen was taken to the Juvenile Detention Center, officials said. His name wasn’t released.

“Following the crime, BSO detectives launched an intensive and exhaustive investigation to identify and locate the suspect,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement. “Using a combination of technological resources and old-fashioned police work, detectives were able to make this arrest.”
