Wilmington's Hotel Du Pont unveils $1,776 package to celebrate America's 250th
Some of the world’s biggest names have walked through the doors of the Hotel Du Pont in Wilmington — from Toni Morrison and Diane Keaton to Jane Goodall, Ken Burns and Grace Kelly.
Now, the historic Delaware landmark is inviting guests to become part of its story with a new, high-end experience tied to America’s 250th birthday.
The Hotel Du Pont, which has hosted guests and events since 1913, is offering an “America’s 250” overnight package from May 1 through July 31.
Jeremy Costa with the hotel said the experience is designed to be memorable.
“We’ve put together a very unique package that includes a lot of different amenities,” Costa said. “You will certainly have a story to tell and share at any event you attend for the rest of your life.”
The package includes access to the hotel’s resident historian, who has all the stories about the handcrafted building known for its artistry and craftsmanship. Guests will also receive complimentary breakfast and a special three-course dinner as part of the hotel’s 250 series at Le Cavalier — known to many longtime visitors as the Green Room.
Additional perks include treats from the hotel bakery and a specialty cocktail inspired by colonial-era Delaware.
Guests will also be driven to the nearby Hagley Museum to tour the origins of the Du Pont family along the Brandywine. Back at the hotel, visitors will stay in a newly renovated signature suite.
The price for the overnight stay is $1,776 for two people — a nod to the nation’s founding year.
While the cost may give some pause, the hotel says the package is designed as an all-inclusive, immersive experience.
Carolina Pino, with sales and marketing at the hotel, said the experience offers something for both first-time and returning visitors.
“It really is conceived to be a full experience while you’re here in the hotel,” Pino said. “You’re not going to have anything else to do but really immerse yourself in the 250 experience.”
Hotel leaders hope international visitors coming to the region for the World Cup will consider the stay, but they also want people from the surrounding area to experience what they call a Delaware treasure in a unique, historic and patriotic way.
