3 men hospitalized, 1 detained after shooting in NW Miami-Dade neighborhood
Three men were hospitalized and a fourth was detained after a shooting in a northwest Miami-Dade neighborhood on Thursday, officials said.
The shooting was reported shortly after 2 p.m. near the 2100 block of Northwest 75th Street.
Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office Det. Argemis Colome said deputies responded and found three men who’d been shot.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue officials said crews responded to the scene and brought all three to a local hospital as trauma alerts.
Two were in critical condition and the third was in stable condition, Colome said.
A fourth man was detained at the scene, and multiple firearms were found, Colome said.
“We don’t know what happened, we don’t even have the subject information right now,” Colome said. “We’re not even discarding the possibility that the people involved could be the subjects or the victims, so that’s definitely something they’re trying to piece together.”
Witness Jake Gardner said he was inside his home when he heard about a dozen shots. He said he looked out his window and saw a man hiding behind a house.
“I saw he was holding a Glock, and he ran across that field right there and had the Glock with him still,” he said.
Gardner pulled out his phone and started recording, and he said deputies caught up with the man he saw running.
“I saw they put a black handgun on the hood of the car,” he said.
Aerial footage from Chopper 6 showed a large law enforcement presence in the neighborhood as authorities investigated the shooting.
A Tesla was parked at the scene with what appeared to be bullet holes.
Nearby Lillie C. Evans Elementary School was placed on lockdown as a precaution, Miami-Dade County Public Schools officials said. The lockdown was later lifted.
“This happened at 2:10 in the afternoon, plain daylight, in a residential neighborhood, so this could have been much worse, even though two individuals are in critical condition,” Colome said. “Definitely a scary situation.”
No other details were immediately known.
