Man targeted ex-girlfriend in Coral Springs shooting caught on camera, cops say
A man is facing multiple charges after police said he targeted his ex-girlfriend in a shooting in broad daylight in Coral Springs that was caught on camera.
The shooting happened around 3 p.m. Thursday near a busy shopping plaza along the 7600 block of West Sample Road.
Cell phone video obtained by NBC6 showed a man in an orange shirt get out of a landscaping company van and approach an SUV armed with a gun.
He’s seen pointing the gun at the SUV and firing a single gunshot before the video ends.
Coral Springs Police confirmed a woman was shot and taken to a local hospital in serious condition.
Authorities identified the suspect late Thursday as 49-year-old Abdul Perez. They confirmed that the shooting was domestic in nature and said Perez and the victim had previously dated.
Police said Perez fled the scene but was found a short time later.

According to an arrest report, Perez shot the victim, Mirtha Sanchez-Teran, multiple times with a semi-automatic handgun. She was hit in the face, chest, abdomen and both shoulders, the report said.
Before the shooting he was driving the van and had intentionally collided with the Lexus SUV Sanchez-Teran was driving, the report said.
After the shooting, witnesses saw the suspect jump into a canal to flee, the report said.
When officers caught up with him, Perez denied shooting the victim and denied knowing her, but she had identified him as the shooter, the report said.
Perez is now charged with attempted premeditated murder, aggravated battery, possession of firearm or ammunition subject to injunction and tampering with evidence.
Surveillance video from a nearby business captured more of the shooting, and how people fled and screamed.
In the footage, at least five gunshots can be heard as a bystander on the sidewalk gets up and runs.
“I saw like one shot on the right side of her body,” one man who runs a business in the area said. “And then, when I take a picture close up to her car, I saw like three gunshots on the window.”
The cell phone video from the witness captured someone yelling: “No, no!”
Aerial footage from Chopper 6 showed multiple officers in the area and behind the shopping plaza where the two vehicles could be seen next to each other up against a building.
According to the report, Perez and Sanchez-Teran dated for about a year, and the two had lived together with her two daughters between September 2025 and April 2.
Police said Friday that Sanchez-Teran remained hospitalized and was in stable condition.
“The Coral Springs Police Department would like to thank those individuals from the public that assisted investigators, as well as the dedicated men and women of the department whose thorough work led to a swift arrest,” police said.
