New ‘Neighborhood Jawnts' program to offer tours of ‘the real Philadelphia'

A new citywide program aims to celebrate the diverse neighborhoods of Philadelphia.

From May 29 through the end of October, the “Neighborhood Jawnts” tour series will offer a unique and accessible way to explore 20 neighborhoods across the city.

On Friday, May 8, 2026, Philadelphia 250 and city leaders announced the initiative during a news conference.

“This is the first time that we have a dedicated tour program that is taking our visitors and residents and anybody who wants to join on tours of the real Philadelphia,” Kathryn Ott Lovell, president and CEO of Philadelphia Visitor Center and Philadelphia 250, said.

Why “Neighborhood Jawnts”?

In Philly slang, “jawn” can mean anything. However, in this program, it stands for “Join A Weekly Neighborhood Tour.”

“If you live here, get out and explore the neighborhood that you don’t know. Try something new, meet someone new,” City Representative Jazelle Jones said.

Every single week, the program will highlight a different neighborhood — from Manayunk to Germantown and beyond.

“Philadelphia is a city of neighborhoods,” Lovell said.
