Woman dies days after being pulled from burning Kingsessing home

A woman has died, officials said, days after she and her son were pulled from a burning rowhome in Philadelphia’s Kingsessing community.

According to fire department officials, in a statement released Friday, a woman in her 80s — identified as Evelyn Summers by her family members — died after she and her son were pulled from a burning rowhome along the 1600 block of South 54th St. on Wednesday, May 6.

In a statement, officials said, her death was ruled accidental.

Officials said about 60 firefighters, EMS providers and support staff worked at the scene on Wednesday during an “all hands” fire situation that broke out at a home before quickly spreading to two adjacent homes on the block.

Summers’ son, who officials said was in his 50s, has been hospitalized in stable condition following the incident.

A cause of the fire remains under investigation, officials said.
