Woman pulled from car after crashing into canal in Pompano Beach, BSO says
Authorities broke a window and pulled a woman to safety after car plunged into a Pompano Beach canal on Friday, officials said.
The incident happened in the 2600 block of S. Palm Aire Drive, near Palm Aire Country Club.
Broward Sheriff’s Office officials said the elderly woman somehow drove through a fence and into the canal next to a shopping plaza.
Deputies, Pompano Beach Fire Rescue and an off-duty Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue captain arrived and went into the water and were able to break a window on the car and bring the woman to safety.
She was the only occupant in the vehicle and wasn’t injured, officials said.
One deputy suffered minor injuries during the rescue, officials said.
It’s unknown how the car ended up in the water. BSO’s Dive Team was responding to remove the vehicle.
