Secret Service officer masturbated in hotel hallway, woman says he followed her, MDSO says

A U.S. Secret Service officer has been put on administrative leave after a woman said he followed her to her hotel room in Miami and started masturbating by her room, according to an arrest report.

John Andrew Spillman, 33, was booked into Miami-Dade jail early Monday morning on a charge of indecent exposure, according to jail records.

An arrest report details that police responded to the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel at 711 Northwest 72nd Avenue near Miami International Airport in reference to a naked man in the hallway of the sixth floor.

Hotel security told police that they saw the suspect in the hallway. When officers got to the sixth floor, they saw him masturbating, authorities said.

After officers took Spillman into custody, a woman stepped out of a room and told them that she was in the lobby when the suspect allegedly “followed [her] upstairs to the same floor.”

She told police that she feared for her life and immediately entered her room.

Then, she said she saw Spillman masturbating next to her hotel room.

The hotel security also said they witnessed the indecent exposure.

Secret Service officials confirmed that Spillman, who is based in Washington, D.C., was in South Florida to provide security for an event and that he was off-duty at the time of the arrest.

“We are aware of the arrest of an off-duty Secret Service officer by the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office. The alleged conduct is unacceptable and stands in stark contrast to the professionalism and integrity that I demand of our personnel,” Richard Macauley, the chief of police of the Secret Service, said in a statement. “This agency takes these matters with the utmost seriousness; consequently, the individual has been placed on administrative leave pending the results of this criminal matter and a complete and thorough internal investigation.”

Spillman was arrested without incident and booked at Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center as of Monday night on a $1,000 bond. He was assigned a public defender.
