Wallaby found after escaping from Cape May County Zoo
Cletus, a two-year-old wallaby, was found and safely brought back home after escaping Cape May County Park and Zoo in New Jersey.
On the early morning of Tuesday, May 5, authorities issued a statement asking local residents to be on the lookout for the escape artist, who was believed to be in the Cape May Court House area of Middle Township.
Officials said a resident has spotted him in their yard, not too far from the zoo.
In an update, later Tuesday morning, officials said Cletus has been found: “The wallaby has been safely recovered and is on his way home. Thank you to everyone involved.” https://www.facebook.com/CMCGovernment/posts/pfbid0ZuE5HiAfkQcU8HsqXNmjwD1uU3z8q2i9CoSiXJ6mE18S4yGiq7E4CodsDutR2w3al
Authorities said zoo officials have already begun an investigation to determine exactly how Cletus found himself on the wrong side of the wallaby enclosure and escaped.
Back in December of 2025, Rex, the wallaby, was captured after he escaped his enclosure at the Lots of Love Farm in the Williamstown section of Monroe Township, Gloucester County.
He had been found one day after his escape at a nearby Walmart on the Black Horse Pike.
