No Tippett again as Flyers try to get even with Hurricanes in second round
RALEIGH, N.C. — The Flyers will be without Owen Tippett again in their best-of-seven second-round playoff series against the Hurricanes.
The 27-year-old winger won’t play Monday night at Lenovo Center in Game 2. He has been considered day to day with an undisclosed injury.
Rick Tocchet said Tippett will be a possibility for Thursday night’s Game 3, calling him a game-time decision.
The Flyers missed Tippett’s dynamic ability Saturday night in a 3-0 loss to open this series against the Eastern Conference’s top seed.
“He’s a big part of our game,” Sean Couturier said. “He’s big, fast, physical, great shot. That’s playoffs, some guys go down, you need guys to step up.”
Tippett has been skating at Lenovo Center since the team arrived.
He played banged up during the first round as the Flyers went on to beat the Penguins in six games. At times throughout the series, Tippett missed practice and morning skates for recovery purposes.
He led the Flyers with 28 goals in the regular season and had 51 points.
