Homestead Christian school teacher arrested for taping child's mouth shut, cops say
A teacher at a Christian school in Homestead was arrested after he allegedly taped a child’s mouth shut, police said.
Michael Alvarez, a teacher at First United Methodist Christian School, was charged with simple battery, Homestead Police said.
Officers had responded to the school on Monday for a reported battery and met with the parents of a student who said their child’s mouth had been taped shut following a disagreement with a teacher, police said.
An investigation was launched which led to the arrest of Alvarez, officials said.
Alvarez, who is listed as a bible teacher on the school’s website, was booked into jail.
The investigation into the incident remains active, police said.
