Two Bucks County men step in to rescue baby fox with jar stuck on its head
A baby fox was rescued in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, after a jar became stuck on its head, prompting warnings about leaving food and trash accessible to wildlife.
On April 21, Joe Judge and David Kavana were cleaning up downed trees in Delaware Park in Middletown Township when they came upon a baby fox in need of help.
At first, they weren’t sure what they were seeing; they thought it may have been a puppy, but then quickly realized it was a fox.
“I zoomed in with my camera and could see a jar on its head, figured I had to help,” said Judge.
The duo told NBC10 that during this whole ordeal, the mother was just a few feet away.
The baby fox came right up to Judge, and he held the animal while Kavana removed the jar.
“I just twist it, once the ears popped out, it was free, so cute,” Kavana said.
Images of the rescue posted on Middletown Township’s page have since spread online, prompting wildlife experts to remind people not to feed animals and to secure trash and other items that could attract them.
Judge and Kavana mentioned that they have returned to the park in hopes of finding the fox family, but they have not had any luck so far. They encourage others to remember that leaving food and trash behind can be harmful to wildlife.
“It’s good for people to be alert,” said Judge.
