Man arrested in hit-and-run that killed 60-year-old in New Castle, Del.
A man was arrested in connection with a hit-and-run crash that killed a 60-year-old pedestrian in New Castle, Delaware, on Wednesday, according to the Delaware State Police.
Cole Burgess, 28, is facing multiple charges after troopers said his Jeep Cherokee struck Teddy Huff Jr. around 12:20 a.m. on May 6, and left the scene without stopping.
According to troopers, Burgess was traveling northbound on Airport Road near East Edinburgh Drive in New Castle when he hit Huff, who was walking northbound at the same location.
Huff died at the scene, according to troopers.
Through their investigation, officials were able to identify Burgess as the owner of the Jeep, and was found in the backyard of his home with damage consistent with the crash.
Troopers took Burgess into custody during a traffic stop for an unrelated traffic violation. He was also found to be in possession of a concealed handgun.
Burgess was charged with leaving scene of a collision resulting in death and failure to report a collision resulting in injury or death in connection with the deadly hit-and-run.
He was also charged with carrying a concealed deadly weapon and a traffic violation in connection with the unrelated traffic stop.
The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit continues to investigate this crash.
