Teen workers at Miami UPS Store face charges in $40K package theft, deputies say

Two teen workers at a Miami UPS store and their alleged accomplice are facing charges in the theft of packages worth around $40,000, authorities said.

Angel Caleb Pagan, 18, was arrested Wednesday on second-degree grand theft and attempted tampering with physical evidence charges, an arrest report said.

Two 17-year-olds are also facing charges in the theft, which happened at the UPS Store at 8555 Northwest 186th Street, the report said.

According to the report, Pagan and one of the 17-year-olds work at the store and are students at Barbara Goleman High School in Miami Lakes.

The alleged victims are a husband and wife who own a business that sells Bath and Body Works and Victoria’s Secret products through Amazon and to individual customers.

The husband and wife told Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office investigators that between March 21 and April 13, 80 boxes of merchandise worth $40,000 that was dropped off at the UPS store went missing, the report said.

The husband said when he drops the merchandise off at the UPS store he’s often met by Pagan and the other teen, the report said.

On April 13, 10 boxes had been dropped off and only five were scanned for shipment, and surveillance video showed the teen employee pulling the five boxes out the rear door while Pagan acted as a lookout, the report said.

The victims said their merchandise, which is distinctly packaged, was found for sale on social media websites.

Some of the merchandise was listed for sale on Facebook Marketplace for $1 per item by the 17-year-old who doesn’t work at the store, the report said.

On April 15, Pagan was seen tampering with the store’s surveillance system and turning it off, the report said.

Pagan was arrested at Barbara Goleman and booked into jail. He appeared in bond court Thursday with his family there to support him.

His defense attorney, Robert Pelier, said he has no criminal record and is set to graduate high school while asking for his release from jail.

“It’s our opinion that this is one big misunderstanding, he’s been working at this UPS Store for a year with raving performance reviews, this is something that we intend on really grilling down and looking into,” Pelier said.

The judge set his bond at $5,000.
