14-year-old boy hurt when shots fired into group in North Philly, officials say

A teen boy has been hospitalized, police say, after bein injured when shots were fired into a group of people along a North Philly street late Tuesday.

According to Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small, the incident happened at about 11:30 p.m. on Tuesday, as officers responded to reports of gunshots along the 2600 block of North Franklin Street in North Philly.

First responders to the scene found a 14-year-old boy on the sidewalk after he had been shot in the back, Small said.

However, the boy was conscious when first responders arrived and, Small said, he told police he was standing with some other people on the sidewalk when someone opened fire on the group.

The victim, officials said, was taken to a nearby hospital where he was listed in stable condition, police said early Wednesday.

Small said witnesses saw the group flee when gunshots rans out, before the victim collapsed along Franklin Street.

At the scene, investigators recovered three spent shell casings, but, Small said, they appeared to have come from two separate firearms.

The chief inspector said police were reviewing surveillance footage for more details on the shooting.

No suspects have yet been identified, no weapons were recovered and no arrests have been made, Small said.

But, he said, an investigation is ongoing.

This is a breaking news story. It will be updated as new information becomes available.
