Truck rollover crash blocks lanes on Florida's Turnpike in Broward

Multiple lanes of the Florida’s Turnpike in Broward remained closed Tuesday morning following a rollover crash involving a tractor-trailer late Monday, officials said.

The Florida Highway Patrol said troopers responded to the crash with injuries in the northbound lanes of the Turnpike at Exit 49 for Hollywood Boulevard and Pines Boulevard.

A Honda sedan had made contact with the tractor-trailer, causing the truck to hit a guardrail and roll over before it came to a rest about 10 feet from a waterway, FHP officials said.

The truck driver was extricated and treated for a hand injury.

Aerial video showed the truck lying in the embankment below the roadway, its contents spilled out onto the grass.

A truck overturned on Florida’s Turnpike north late Monday, and the clean-up continues Tuesday morning.

Officials said miscellaneous spray bottles spilled from the truck and more than 50 gallons of fuel leaked.

Two lanes were closed for cleanup operations, along with the on-ramp to the Turnpike from Hollywood Boulevard.

Drivers were advised to take U.S. 441 or Interstate 95 as an alternate route as crews continue to clear the debris.

The driver of the Honda was cited for careless driving, officials said.

A separate crash on the Turnpike northbound before Interstate 595 was also causing delays with two lanes blocked off. The preferred alternate route in that incident is I-95.
