Person of interest ID'd in 2020 murder of transgender woman in Pompano Beach, BSO says
Nearly six years after a transgender woman was killed in Pompano Beach, deputies on Tuesday announced a person of interest in the death of 27-year-old Bree Black.
According to the Broward Sheriff’s Office, on July 3, 2020, Black was gunned down in the 200 block of Northwest 12th Street.
When deputies arrived at the scene, they found Black on the ground suffering from gunshot wounds. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
During a news conference on Tuesday, BSO’s Cold Case Unit Detective Andrew Gianino said that before Black was killed, she was at a gender-reveal party nearby and left to charge her phone.
According to Gianino, after charging her phone and leaving her apartment, Black waited outside for a ride and was video chatting with a friend, Gianino said.
“After the call ended, she was chased down, shot and killed,” Gianino said.
Gianino said that the person of interest was known to Black, and the person was involved in a physical fight with Black two to three days before she was killed.
“We believe that this physical altercation was the motive for the shooting,” he said.
While BSO is not identifying the person of interest, Gianino said they have been taken into custody for an unrelated violent act, and they have a history of violence.
The person of interest has not been charged in Black’s murder.
There is A $10,000 reward for any information in the case.
