Super Bowl champ, Barrington High alum Scotty Miller trying out for Bears

Wide receiver Scotty Miller, the Barrington High School graduate who won a Super Bowl as a member of the 2020 Buccaneers, is trying out with the Bears during their rookie minicamp this weekend.

Miller, who turns 29 on July 31, seemingly has an opportunity — Kalif Raymond is the only proven receiver the Bears added to team with Rome Odunze and Luther Burden. Miller has more than 11 catches in a season only once in the past five seasons, though. He caught nine balls for 62 yards in 13 games with the Steelers last year.

He spent his first four seasons with the Bucs, followed by one with the Falcons and two with the Steelers. He played only 27 special teams downs over the past two years.

He played for Bears receivers coach Antwaan Randle El, then a Bucs assistant, in 2020.

"There's some shared experiences," Bears coach Bears Johnson said Friday morning.

Also Friday, the Bears announced that they’d signed their bottom four draft picks — receiver Zavion Thomas, cornerback Malik Muhammad, linebacker Keyshaun Elliott and defensive lineman Jordan van den Berg — to standard four-year rookie contracts.

The Bears also announced the signing of 13 undrafted free agents: Wyoming offensive lineman Caden Barnett, Kennesaw State running back Coleman Bennett, Tulane running back KC Eziomune, Georgia longsnapper Beau Gardner, Michigan State wide receiver Omari Kelly, Utah offensive lineman Jaren Kump, Iowa tight end Hayden Large, Wake Forest defensive lineman Jayden Loving, Louisville quarterback Miller Moss, Auburn offensive lineman Mason Murphy, San Diego State kicker Gabriel Plascencia, Oregon State defensive back Skyler Thomas and Florida State wide receiver Squirrel White.
