Road Ranger, driver and child injured in crash on Sawgrass Expressway in Coral Springs
Three people including a child were hospitalized after a crash involving a Road Ranger and another vehicle on the Sawgrass Expressway in Coral Springs on Tuesday afternoon, officials said.
The crash happened in the northbound lanes of the Expressway near University Drive.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the Road Ranger was parked behind a trooper who was in the center lane with emergency lights activated assisting a disabled tractor-trailer.
The trooper and Road Ranger were in the process of closing the lanes and had cones and emergency devices deployed to alert drivers to slow down when the driver of a Genesis SUV “failed to use due care” and crashed into the Road Ranger’s truck, FHP officials said.
The Road Ranger was standing outside his vehicle and was hospitalized with a broken thumb, officials said.
The driver of the Genesis and a small child who was in the SUV without a child safety seat were also hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries, officials said.
Aerial footage from Chopper 6 showed the black SUV with heavy front-end damage next to the Road Ranger truck.
Debris was scattered across the roadway as authorities responded to investigate.
All northbound lanes were blocked for a couple hours before they reopened, officials said.
