Parking restrictions, road closures set for ‘May Day Rally' in Philly

The City of Philadelphia announced road closures and parking restrictions for the upcoming “May Day Rally: Workers Over Billionaires” to be held Friday in Center City.

The rally, organized by the Philadelphia Council AFL-CIO, is set to run from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday, May 1, on the north apron of City Hall. The rally will be followed by a march.

In response, officials said they will be implementing road closures and parking restrictions, and warned drivers of significant traffic delays expected during the event.

Road closures

The following streets will be closed for the rally starting at approximately 3 p.m. until about 6 p.m. on Friday.

  • John F. Kennedy Boulevard between Juniper Street and 15th Street
  • North Broad Street between John F. Kennedy Boulevard and Arch Street
  • Juniper Street between John F. Kennedy Boulevard and Market Street

According to the City, additional closures may be implemented based on public safety and crowd size conditions.

Parking restrictions

Drivers are also asked to adhere to posted “Temporary No Stopping/Parking” signs. Cars parked in these locations during posted hours will be relocated.

If you believe your car was relocated, you are asked to call the police district of the area where your car was parked.

Public transportation

Drivers are encouraged to avoid the area by using alternate routes and public transportation options including the Market-Frankford Line, Broad Street Line and Regional Rail.

SEPTA Bus Routes 4, 16, 17, 27, 32, 33, 38, 48, 62, 124, and 125 will be detoured from their normal routes through the Center City area beginning at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, May 1 through approximately 8 p.m.

Stay safe

In the event of an emergency or to report a suspicious person, activity, or item (backpack, package, container, etc.), notify a police officer immediately or call 911.
