Officials to announce arrests in deadly mass shooting at Lincoln University

Officials are set to announce more arrests in a mass shooting at Lincoln University last October that left one person dead and six others injured.

The Chester County District Attorney’s Office will announce the arrests and new details on the shooting during a press conference on Tuesday, May 5, at 3:30 p.m. You can watch it on the NBC10 Philadelphia streaming channel or in the video embedded on top of this article.

The shooting occurred back on Oct. 27, 2025, around 9:30 p.m. during homecoming events outside Lincoln University’s International Cultural Center (ICC) building. The gunfire sent the attendees fleeing in different directions.

Seven people, including 20-year-old Jujuan Jeffers of Wilmington, Delaware, were struck in the shooting. Jeffers – who was shot in the head – died from his injuries. The other six victims – who were between the ages of 20 and 25 — survived.

One of the survivors is a student at Lincoln University and another victim is an alum. The other four survivors don’t have a known connection to the school, according to Chester County District Attorney Christopher de Barrena-Sarobe.

Shamiyah Towns, who was at the event, described to NBC10 the chaotic moments after the shooting.

“It was very loud, it was like boom boom,” Towns said. “I was right where the shooter was, like I had to be because my ears started ringing.”

Another witness told NBC10 she helped one of the shooting victims who had been shot in the leg.

“I ran over to her,” she said. “I asked if she was okay and I saw blood coming out of her leg.”

The witness – who went to nursing school – applied pressure to the victim’s wound, helped her calm down after she suffered a panic attack and waited with her until the ambulance arrived.

“My passion is to help people, so once I saw her laying on the ground, yelling, my instinct was to get up and help her,” she said.

Zecqueous Morgan-Thompson of Wilmington, Delaware, was arrested in connection to the shooting. Investigators said he had a loaded gun in his possession at the time of the incident and he was charged with carrying a concealed firearm without a license.

Officials said Morgan-Thompson fired a shot during the incident but it was unclear if the bullet struck anyone. They also said they believed multiple shooters were involved.

Morgan-Thompson told police the gun belonged to his mother and he had brought it with him from Wilmington, according to court documents.

Prior to Tuesday, no additional arrests had been announced in the shooting.

In March 2026, Jeffers’ family filed a lawsuit against Lincoln University, claiming the school ignored safety warnings and failed to provide enough security the night of the shooting.

When asked about the lawsuit, a school spokesperson told NBC10 that the “university does not comment on active litigation.”

Located in Lower Oxford Township, Pennsylvania, and founded in 1854 as Ashmun Institute, Lincoln University is recognized as the first college-degree-granting historically black university (HBCU) in the country. The university has a second location in Philadelphia’s University City neighborhood.
