Center City District introducing weekday edition of Open Streets this June

Center City District’s (CCD) popular Open Streets series returns this summer in Midtown Village, but with a twist: a new weekday evening format.

Organizers said every Tuesday from June 2 through June 30, Open Streets: Midtown Village will transform five blocks into a fully pedestrianized experience from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m., with street closures in effect from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. on 13th Street from Chestnut to Walnut, Sansom Street from 12th to Juniper, and Drury Street.

Open Streets was created to offer Center City residents and workers a new car-free way to unwind after work and enjoy one of the city’s premier dining districts.

Visitors can enjoy music, artists, and Double Dutch performances by Philly Girls Jump, and CCD will also provide additional seating and activities like ping-pong and miniature golf.

There will be no outside vendors, organizers said, but visitors are encouraged to support the local businesses along the route.

“We’re excited to pilot the first Open Streets evening edition in Midtown Village,” CCD President and CEO Prema Katari Gupta said in a news release. “Hosting it during the week provides the bustling neighborhood with a break from car traffic and gives our restaurateurs extra space during happy hour and dinner times. We’re looking forward to learning how to further tailor this program to the needs of the neighborhood.”
