Berks County elementary school closed after overnight fire inside classroom
Boyertown Elementary School in Berks County, Pennsylvania, is closed on Monday after a fire broke out inside a classroom overnight.
Fire officials reported that crews arrived at the school shortly after 1:30 a.m. on Monday, April 20, 2026, in response to the fire alarm activation.
When crews got to the scene, officials said they found smoke in the hallway coming from one room.
Officials reported that a bulletin board was found on fire in the room. The fire was put out a short time later.
School officials issued a statement following the incident, announcing that the school will be closed on Monday:
“Due to an early morning classroom-contained fire, Boyertown Elementary will be closed today, Monday, April 20, 2026. Students and staff will follow a Flexible Instructional Day schedule.
Students should complete activities on their FID choice boards.
This message is for Boyertown Elementary only. All other district buildings will operate on a normal, in-person schedule.”
It is unclear at this time how the fire started.
