Wanted federal fugitive who fled twice before Hialeah take down facing new charge, records show

A wanted federal fugitive who was arrested after trying to flee from law enforcement twice before he was taken down in Hialeah is facing a new charge, records showed.

Yam Brandy Perera Nuñez, 41, is facing aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after previously being charged with aggravated fleeing and eluding, aggravated assault, aggravated battery, resisting with violence and grand theft.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Perera Nuñez was taken into custody on Thursday after he was found at a Walgreens near West 68th Street and 12th Avenue in Hialeah.

Video obtained by NBC6 showed a heavy police presence, including armed authorities running in the area. Eventually, Perea Nuñez hits the ground, and at least half a dozen officers rush on top of him. A Corvette was then towed from the scene.

Hialeah Police officials said their K-9 unit assisted FHP in locating Perera Nuñez, who tried to resist arrest but was Tased and taken into custody.

FHP officials said the same suspect fled from troopers on Wednesday before the pursuit ended in the area of Northwest 137th Avenue and Northwest 178th Street.

Exclusive video showed a white pick-up truck with a trailer attached speeding down Okeechobee Road with police cars close behind. Witnesses said the incident started as a chase, and that authorities told them a suspect jumped out of a truck and fled on foot.

Perera Nuñez has a lengthy arrest record dating back to 2003 for charges including grand theft, resisting arrest, burglaries, drug trafficking and was at one point detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. He was also arrested last year in Tampa.

He is expected to appear before a judge on Saturday.
