After pick swaps with Panthers, Bears draft Texas CB Malik Muhammad in fourth round at No. 124 overall

The Bears made their first pick of Day 3 of the draft Saturday afternoon by taking Texas cornerback Malik Muhammad in the fourth round at No. 124 overall.

They got that pick after a deal with the Panthers that shifted their fourth- and fifth-round selections. The Bears originally were set to select at No. 129 overall in the fourth and No. 144 in the fifth, but moved up in the fourth to No. 124 and slid back in the fifth to No. 166 in the trade.

Muhammad, 21, left school early to enter the draft. He had three interceptions in three seasons.

As it got later in the draft, adding a cornerback became increasingly likely for the Bears. They have Jaylon Johnson outside and Kyler Gordon at nickel, but after that it's fairly open. Muhammad will compete against Tyrique Stevenson and Terell Smith. Both of those veterans will be free agents after this season.
