Sky trade for Jacy Sheldon, give up 2028 first-round pick
Have the Sky finally found their point guard of the future?
The team announced the acquisition of Jacy Sheldon from Washington, adding a 25-year-old guard known for relentless on-ball defense and improved shooting.
"Jacy made an impression on us with her toughness, competitiveness and ability to compete on both ends of the court," general manager Jeff Pagliocca said in a statement. "She has proven to be a great young player who can shoot the ball and defend in this league. Jacy fits what we are looking for seamlessly."
Sheldon, the No. 5 pick in the 2024 draft, bounced around early in her career — traded to Connecticut after her rookie season in Dallas, then dealt to Washington midway through 2025. But her stock rose last season as she bumped her 3-point percentage from 30.9% to 39.6%.
To land her, Chicago gave up its 2028 first-round pick. The Mystics also holds the right to swap the Sky's 2027 first-rounder, acquired in the Ariel Atkins deal last year.
The Sky's long term plans for the point-guard spot have been up in the air. Courtney Vandersloot is expected back from ACL injury but will likely miss time early, and the front office acknowledges she won't be able to play 35 minutes a game.
The Sky also drafted combo guard Hailey Van Lith at No. 11 in 2024, but she struggled to adapt to the pros. Earlier this week, the Sky extended a qualifying offer to Sevgi Uzun, a 28-year old point guard who joined the team on a rest-of-season contract in 2025.
