50-acre wildfire producing heavy smoke in Gloucester County, visible from Philly
A massive wildfire was producing heavy smoke Saturday in Gloucester County, New Jersey.
The fire, which was visible from Interstate 95, was reported around 11 a.m. in West Deptford, in the area of Sunoco Refinery property.
Around 1:15 p.m., the New Jersey Forest Fire Service said the fire had reached 50 acres and was 40% contained. Officials said there were 100 structures threatened and voluntary evacuations were in placed.
Red Bank Avenue is closed from Hessian Avenue to the Delaware River, according to officials.

According to the Gloucester County Emergency Management, smoke plumes and fallen ash were reported as far south and east as Glassboro and Washington Township.
The heavy smoke was also visible from Philadelphia. Phillies fans could see the smoke as they walked to Citizens Bank Park for Saturday’s game.

Officials said conditions could change or worsen due to high winds or fire conditions.
Several resources were deployed to the scene to fight the fire and protect structures. Multiple fire boats from both sides of the Delaware River and teams from New Jersey Forest Fire Service were also helping.
Those with health or breathing problems were urged to stay indoors or shut windows.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Officials said they will give another update at 6 p.m.
