Police respond as man barricades himself inside Northeast Philly home

Police were working overnight in the Rhawnhurst section of Northeast Philly after a man barricaded himself inside a home along Shelmire Avenue, officials said.

According to police, at about 3:30 a.m., police responded to a home along the 4200 block of Shelmire Avenue due to a barricade situation.

At the scene, NBC10’s cameras spotted fire trucks and police SWAT vehicles along with gathered police cruisers outside the property.

However, as of about 5:30 a.m., police did not provide more information on the situation or the man who was involved in this incident, nor did they say if he was armed or if there were any other people in the home as the incident evolved.

At about 6 a.m., three children and a woman appeared to exit the property involved in this situation before SWAT officers were seen moving into the building.

And, about a half-hour later, officers were seen taking a man into custody and leading him out of the building.

Police were still working at the scene as of 6:30 a.m. and the situation was ongoing.

An investigation into this incident was still underway early Friday.

NBC10 is working to learn more.
