Police investigate reported sex assault at West Chester University

An investigation is underway after a person was sexually assaulted at West Chester University, the school announced.

On Sunday, April 19, West Chester University Police received a report of an alleged sexual assault that took place in a dorm between late Thursday, April 16, and early Friday, April 17. Police said the suspect and the victim know each other.

Resources for victims of sexual assault are available through the National Sexual Violence Resources Center and the National Sexual Assault Telephone Hotline at 800-656-4673.

A school spokesperson said a warning was sent to the campus community after police received the report on Sunday.

The school has not released any additional details on the suspect or if an arrest was made. West Chester University Police continue to investigate.

“The University is committed to maintaining a safe environment for teaching and learning where all students are expected to be law-abiding citizens,” the school spokesperson wrote. “Violations of law are addressed in WCU’s student code of conduct and have consequences within the University.”

Established in 1871, West Chester University is a public research university located in West Chester, Pennsylvania. It’s the sixth largest university in the state and also has a satellite campus located in Center City, Philadelphia.
