Miami-Dade condo manager arrested in illegal kickback scheme, sheriff says
A community association manager for a Miami-Dade condo has been arrested in a fraud scheme involving illegal kickbacks, authorities said.
Maria Delcarmen Alvarez-Concepcion, 57, was arrested Thursday on charges including 37 counts of accepting kickbacks/solicitation, and one count each of organized fraud and grand theft, Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office officials said.
According to the sheriff’s office and an arrest affidavit, Alvarez-Concepcion had been the building manager for the Greynolds Park Club Condominium on W. Dixie Highway.
Investigators said a tip was received that a contracted vendor was being forced to pay kickbacks to Alvarez-Concepcion when he provided services at the condo.
The avoid losing business, the vendor had paid Alvarez-Concepcion around $21,000 in cash or bank transfers, authorities said.
Alvarez-Concepcion was arrested at the condo community’s parking lot and booked into jail. She appeared before a judge on Friday who appointed her a public defender and set her bond at $10,000.
“This arrest reflects our commitment to protecting residents and holding accountable those who exploit positions of trust, and we will continue to aggressively combat association fraud in our community,” Miami-Dade Sheriff Rosie Cordero-Stutz said in a statement.
