17-year-old fatally shot during exchange of gunfire in Homestead ID'd, police say
New details were released on Saturday after a 17-year-old was killed in an overnight shooting in Homestead.
According to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a call at around 6 p.m. on Friday to a person who was shot in the area of Southwest 282nd Street and 125th Avenue.
When deputies arrived at the scene, they found the teen suffering from gunshot wounds, and he was taken to the hospital, where he died from his injuries.
The teen was identified as Trashawn Foster.
During their investigation, deputies said two people were detained, and it was revealed that there was an exchange of gunfire between Foster and one of those individuals.
Everyone who was detained has since been released, including the person investigators say was involved in the shooting.
“At this time, we don’t know what led to the shooting,” a deputy said. “Obviously, there’s a park nearby. So we’re not discarding the possibility that there was some sort of argument.”
One neighbor told NBC6 that he was outside walking his dog when the shots rang out.
“It was just like shocking, but at the same time, it was like, yeah, I was scared,” he said. “Yeah, I’m happy, like, it could have ricocheted. Well, I’m happy no other kid got hurt, sadly, because there’s so much kids walking and there’s always shootings here.”
No arrests have been made as the investigation into the shooting remains active.
