Camden School District lays off 100 employees amid central office restructuring

The Camden School District has laid off 100 employees as the school system restructures positions in its central office.

The district confirmed to NBC10 that 100 employees were given notices on April 30 as part of “a broader effort to align the organization with current enrollment, fiscal realities, and district priorities, while also ensuring compliance with New Jersey Department of Education certification requirements.”

The school system also noted that staff who were laid off are being urged to apply to new positions being posted in May and June as part of the restructuring.

“It is important to note that this process reflects a restructuring of positions—not a simple reduction in staffing,” district officials said. “Revised job descriptions aligned to the new organizational structure will be posted, and all impacted staff are encouraged to apply and will be considered through the district’s hiring process.”

The new office structure takes effect on July 1, officials said.

“The goal of this work is to create a more coherent and efficient central office that better supports schools, teaching, and student outcomes.”
