South Florida organizers rally to extend TPS for Haitians as Supreme Court to hear arguments

As the U.S. Supreme Court is set to hear arguments on whether the Trump administration can end Temporary Protective Status for Haitians, organizers in South Florida are speaking out and asking officials to extend the program.

The Family Action Network will be joined by faith leaders, immigration lawyers and community leaders during the rally in North Miami.

According to FANM, the Supreme Court’s decision to allow the Trump administration to end TPS could affect 350,000 Haitian nationals who are living in the U.S.

Back in February, a federal judge blocked the administration from ending temporary protections for Haitians.

The administration then appealed the decision to the Supreme Court, which agreed to hear the case.

Following the judge’s decision, several South Florida leaders, such as the Miami Archbishop, praised the reprieve.

The U.S. House of Representatives, in April, in a rare bipartisan moment, passed legislation that would extend temporary protections for Haitian immigrants.
