‘No signs of life': Bodycam shows crews checking locksmith fatally shot in West Miami
Body camera video captured the moments when officers raced to an apartment building in West Miami and found the body of a locksmith who was fatally shot back in February.
Luis David Lemus, 32, was charged with second-degree murder in the killing of Adrian Venereo at the apartment building on Southwest 8th Street on Feb. 20.
According to Miami Police, officers arrived at the seventh floor of 6355 Southwest 8th Avenue, where they found Venereo in the hallway suffering from a gunshot wound to his head.
The body camera footage shows an officer rushing down the hallway where Venereo’s body lay in a pool of blood.
“He’s got a gunshot in the head,” an officer said.
An officer was then seen performing CPR on Venereo’s body before Miami Fire Rescue crews arrived and assessed him.
“No signs of life,” said a first responder in the video.
An arrest report said a witness told authorities he was with Lemus when they were locked out of Lemus’ home.
They then called a locksmith, and while he was working on the lock, Lemus pulled out a gun and shot him in the head, the report said.
Lemus then fled the scene, but police were able to find him and take him into custody.
Surveillance footage captured the moments before Venereo was shot to death while on the job.
In the surveillance, Lemus is in a white jersey, walking with Venereo, who is rolling a toolbox behind him.
While Venereo was working to change the locks, Lemus allegedly pulled out a gun and shot him in the head before running away.
The suspect’s father is heard screaming after it happened, with blood on his arms and hands.
“Why would you do that?” he screams.

Nicole Galvis, Venereo’s husband, said she came to the scene when she didn’t hear from her husband.
“I just felt something was wrong, and when I showed up, I saw all the crime scene and the police,” she said. “They don’t know why he did it, he was just working.”
Lemus, who appeared in court virtually from his jail cell, was seen on video lying down on a bed and pulling a blanket over himself. He didn’t answer any questions.
A judge denied Lemus’ bond. Prosecutors said he confessed to the crime.
