Man grabs steering wheel, forces car into oncoming traffic with baby in backseat
A Delaware man is going to prison after grabbing the steering wheel of a car he was passenger in and forcing the vehicle into oncoming traffic while a baby was in the backseat, according to the Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office.
Police were called to Route 55 in Deptford Township on July 12, 2024, where a woman told them she was driving when Carlos Torres, 37, grabbed the steering wheel.
Torres was accused of forcing their car into oncoming traffic while a 1-year-old baby was in the backseat and saying he would make sure they “do not make it home,” according to court documents.
The woman told police that Torres had been drinking.
Torres was convicted of endangering the welfare of a child and was sentenced on April 21 to five year in state prison.
