BSO sergeant arrested on domestic violence charges for 2nd time this year, records show

A veteran Broward Sheriff’s Office sergeant has been arrested on multiple domestic violence-related charges for the second time this year, records showed.

Scott Nida, 55, was arrested Monday on charges including domestic violence battery, robbery, false imprisonment and grand theft auto, an arrest report said.

Nida had been arrested in January on charges including false imprisonment, domestic battery by strangulation and touch or strike battery.

The latest arrest happened after Deerfield Beach deputies responded to the area of Southeast 54th Street and Southeast 19th Terrace for a domestic battery investigation involving Nida and his girlfriend, the report said.

A 911 call from a passerby said the victim was battered by her boyfriend who then stole her car, the report said.

When deputies arrived they found the woman with a bloody and bruised face.

She said Nida had requested a document from her and when she went to deliver it, he got in her car appearing “very agitated” and started accusing her of infidelity, the report said.

As she was driving, she said Nida grabbed the back of her head and started punching her in the face and head multiple times, the report said.

She said Nida continued to punch her and she started bleeding, and when she tried to get out, he pulled her back into the car and continued to batter her, the report said.

The woman said she was finally able to flag down a citizen who called 911 for her as Nida drove off in her car with her phone and belongings, the report said.

She told investigators about his arrest in January on domestic violence charges but she had recently waived prosecution in that case and the no contact order was dismissed.

According to the report, she said she felt coerced into dropping the charges in the January case since Nida told her he would lose his job and pension.

The woman’s car, a red Nissan Altima, was later found in a church parking lot in Deerfield Beach with Nida’s glasses inside, and surveillance video showed Nida driving the car and parking it at the church, the report said.

Nida was taken into custody at his Pompano Beach home but he denied the allegations and denied taking her car, the report said.

Records showed Nida was booked into jail and later appeared before a judge, who set his bond at $47,500. He’ll have to wear a GPS monitor if he’s released and can have no contact with the alleged victim, along with no possession of weapons or firearms.

Nida, who was hired by BSO in January of 2005, was placed on administrative leave without pay after his initial arrest in January.

“Domestic violence is unacceptable especially from someone who is sworn to uphold the law.” Broward Sheriff Dr. Gregory Tony said in a statement after Nida’s initial arrest. “When a sworn member is accused of this type of crime, they are held to the same standards as any member of the public.”
