Large crane collapses in Hialeah neighborhood, missing homes and cars
Crews responded after a large crane collapsed in a Hialeah neighborhood on Wednesday, narrowly missing homes and cars.
The incident happened around 5:30 p.m. in the area of 63rd Street and Palm Avenue.
Aerial footage from Chopper 6 showed the crane on its side on the ground near some homes.
No injuries were reported and there were no power outages, Hialeah Fire Rescue officials said.
The incident involved a subcontractor for Florida Power & Light, and FPL was bringing in equipment to flip the crane back over, officials said.
Mayra Jimenez walked outside of her Hialeah home and saw a massive crane in her neighbor’s yard.
“It was boom, so I ran to here because I know something happened,” Jimenez said. “It was really strong, it was really strong.”
Surveillance video shows the crane tipping over. The crane took out a concrete pole, but didn’t hit any homes or vehicles.
Workers with the crane company, Sims Crane & Equipment, spent the night trying to figure out the best way to get their equipment back up.
Many homeowners like Jimenez know they dodged a bullet.
“Yeah I’m grateful,” Jimenez said. “It could be worse.”
