Large brush fire burns in the Everglades in western Broward County
A large brush fire was burning in the Florida Everglades in western Broward County on Tuesday.
The fire was burning just west of U.S. 27 about 12 miles west of Coral Springs.
Aerial footage from Chopper 6 showed thick smoke rising into the air from the fire as it burned near the roadway.

A helicopter could be seen dumping water onto portions of the fire.
Florida Forest Service data shows the fire encompasses about 900 acres with 0% containment as of Tuesday afternoon.
There were no homes or communities impacted. Strong winds will blow smoke across the interior of South Florida, away from the metro area.
A second smaller fire was reported off U.S. 27 west of Pembroke Pines.
Parts of Broward County are currently in a “severe drought” as classified by the U.S. Drought Monitor.
