Gunfire erupts at block party in North Philadelphia on Tuesday night, police say
A woman is in the hospital and a shooter is on the run on Tuesday night after a block party in North Philadelphia ended in a gun fight, police said.
According to Capt. Timothy Stephan of the Philadelphia Police Department, a block party on Colorado Street near Cumberland Street was taking place when a woman was shot in the leg following a verbal altercation.
After the woman was shot, another man at the block party ran into his house and grabbed an assault rifle, which he then used to open fire on the crowd, which consisted of around 50 people, Stephan said.
The man with the assault rifle remained on the scene and handed over his firearm to police, Stephan said. However, the shooter who shot the woman left the scene and remains sought by police.
No description was immediately available of the wanted shooter.
The woman was taken to the hospital and is in stable condition, Stephan said.
