Flyers fan catches Cam York's game-winning stick
Cam York’s game-winning goal in overtime Wednesday night launched the Flyers into the next round of the playoffs.
To celebrate, York launched his stick into the crowd. It ended up in the hands of Jack Brod, a lifelong Flyers fan from Bucks County, Pennsylvania.
“Over the top elation and emotion. You know that feeling where you just can’t take away that ear-to-ear smile? That’s where I was. That’s how I feel right now when I was talking about it and reliving it,” Brod said.
“It just made a really special moment that much more special because how often does a hockey player throw his stick into the fans, let alone a game-winning, series-winning goal that came off the blade of that stick? It was just a phenomenal moment,” he added.
Brod said the stick just hit him in the hand, adding he thinks he “blocked it at the last second.”
His friends Cameron and Mitchell were seated right behind him. He let them take a picture with the stick.
As for York, he reacted, saying in part, “I hope everyone is okay in the stands. Definitely don’t want a lawsuit.”
“Definitely no lawsuits from me. If anything, thank yous and praises, and a big request for a signature, Cam,” Brod shared.
The Flyers are working on getting the two to meet. Meanwhile, Brod plans to gift the hockey stick to a young hockey player he knows.
He said if York wants the stick back for good luck, he is open to a swap.
“We want to see you score more goals in the series ahead. Thanks Cam!” Brod said.
