Firefighters rescue dog, owner from steep quarry in Berks County, Pennsylvania
A dog and its owner were rescued by firefighters after being found 60 feet down a steep quarry in Berks County, Pennsylvania.
The Blandon Fire Department shared in a news release that around 11:45 a.m. on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, crews were dispatched to the 1300 block of Pleasant Hill Road after receiving a report of a dog trapped in a quarry.
When crews arrived on scene, officials said they found the dog and its owner 60 feet down a steep quarry.
Due to limited access and terrain, officials said crews determined a rope rescue was the best option.

“A tree was utilized as a secure anchor point, and crews set up a twin tension rope system. A rescuer was lowered to the dog and owner, where a bridle was placed on the canine using an Anderson Rescue Solutions, LLC MLRS and it was integrated into the rope system alongside the rescuer,” officials wrote.
After 45 minutes, officials said the team was able to successfully bring both the dog and it’s owner safely to the top.
