Accessibility, HVAC among key improvements planned for Cecil B. Moore Library
Renovation plans for Cecil B. Moore Library are moving forward, and the community is invited to share their input.
On Wednesday, April 15, 2026, Councilman Jeffery Young Jr. gathered with library leaders, Capital Projects, and community stakeholders to share updates on the planned renovations at the library.
According to a release, recent facility assessments identified accessibility and HVAC improvements as the most urgent needs to ensure the facility remains safe and accessible to everyone. Officials said approximately $2 million in funding have been allocated for these improvements.
The key improvements include:
- ADA entrance with automatic doors and two new ADA-accessible bathrooms
- Installation of a limited-use/limited-access elevator
- Full HVAC system replacement (air handling unit, controls, and boiler)
- Life safety upgrades, including improved exits, lighting, and a new fire alarm system
- New water heater
The project is currently in the work order processing and permitting phase, according to officials.
Construction is set to begin in late summer 2026, and it is expected to be completed by spring 2027.
Officials said approximately $2 million in funding has been allocated for these improvements.
On Wednesday, Young also announced plans to establish a Community Advisory Group to ensure transparency and so the community has a say in the process.
Residents interested in participating in this group are encouraged to sign up on this website.
