NBC10 crews at the scene reported that the vehicle had driven completely into the precinct lobby with debris scattered across the area.

Police Commissioner Kevin Bethel said that around 11:45 a.m., officers initially responded to a disturbance involving a man and his father. After handling the situation, officers resumed patrol.

Shortly afterward, the same man drove southbound on Castor Avenue and crashed his vehicle directly into the lobby of the Second District station.

At the time of the crash, five people were inside the lobby waiting for service. All five were injured and transported to a nearby hospital for treatment, according to Bethel.

Following the crash, the driver exited the vehicle and was taken into custody.

Bethel described the incident as “a deliberate act.”

Officials have not yet released the identity of the suspect and say they are investigating whether this man acted alone.

Witnesses and neighbors react to crash at police building

“I head a loud boom and continuous shattering of glass. I thought it was the police being under attack,” Clarence Armstrong said.

Armstrong said that he was inside the building’s bathroom when the car crashed into it. He says he could have been seriously hurt.

“I could have been hit directly by the car straight on because literally, not too long before that, I was outside on the bench taking a nap,” Armstrong explained. “I was in the right place at the right time.”

Neighbors told NBC10 that this could have ended up much worse.
