5 in custody after shooting, pursuit and bailout in Lauderdale Lakes, BSO says
Five people were taken into custody after a shooting led to a short pursuit and bailout Thursday in Lauderdale Lakes, authorities said.
Broward Sheriff’s officials said deputies responded at around 3 p.m. to reports of a shooting in the 2700 block of Somerset Drive.
A victim told deputies that several people shot at his vehicle and then took off in a light-colored vehicle, officials said.
Deputies later spotted the vehicle, and a short pursuit ensued. Five subjects bailed out of the vehicle and ran off, but were taken into custody a short time later.
Resident Bezana Jean said she heard several gunshots from inside her apartment, and then immediately after, she heard a scream.
“Really scary,” Jean said. “They kept shooting after her.”
Surveillance video from a Lauderhill home shows four of the five suspects running around the building. Deputies caught up with them and the fifth person in front of a home.
One woman told NBC6 her niece and her child were inside the van that was shot up. They were shaken up, but not injured.
