Police: ‘Human' remains found in Ridley Creek State Park actually deer carcass

After a pair of hikers discovered remains — that were initially believed to have belonged to a human being — in Ridley Creek State Park in Upper Providence Township on Friday, police said in a weekend update that the remains belonged to a deer.

In a statement on Sunday, police said that as of about 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, the Delaware County Medical Examiner’s office contacted officials with the Pa. State Police, to confirm that remains that were discovered in the park, near the intersection of Chapel Hill Road and Ridley Creek Road were that of a deer.

“The Medical Examiner’s Office related that after a more extensive examination of the alleged human remains, they have been confirmed to be that of a deer, not those of a human,” state police said in a statement.

The Medical Examiner’s Office had initially believed the remains to be that of a human being.

No other remains were found at that location and, officials said, an investigation into this incident has been closed.
