Father allegedly fatally shot son in domestic dispute in Palmetto Bay, officials say

A domestic dispute between a father and son ended in a fatal shooting Wednesday in Palmetto Bay, according to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded to a home near Southwest 168th Street and Southwest 92nd Avenue, around 4:49 p.m., following reports of a dispute and a shooting, authorities said.

Investigators said the victim, a 47-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene. The suspected shooter, identified as the victim’s father, a man in his 70s, was taken into custody and is being questioned.

“The individual that was shot and deceased on the scene is the son — the shooter was the father, who was detained immediately upon our arrival,” said Argemis Colome, a spokesperson for the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies said they have responded to the home before for calls related to mental health concerns.

Neighbors described the incident as shocking in an otherwise quiet community.

“It’s definitely something that we didn’t think could happen, but it happened right next door,” neighbor Giorgos Kollilekas said.

Kollilekas said he returned home to find a heavy police presence.

“Usually, this is a very quiet neighborhood. If we see one police car every now and then, it’s pretty safe and pretty quiet. But coming back from work and seeing a bunch of police cars — it’s kind of alarming,” he said.

Authorities said the shooting appears to be an isolated incident and there is no ongoing threat to the community.

The name of the victim has not yet been released. Investigators have not said what led up to the shooting.
