Brush fire in western Broward burns 6,500 acres as crews continue to battle blaze
A brush fire in the Everglades in western Broward continued to grow Wednesday as crews battled the blaze.
The fire was burning just west of U.S. 27 about 12 miles west of Coral Springs.
As of Wednesday morning, the fire was up to 6,500 acres burned and was 50 percent contained, Florida Forest Service officials said.
There were no threats to homes or structures and no major impacts to local roadways, as U.S. 27 remained open, officials said.
It was unclear how long crews would be fighting the fire, officials said.
